You Deserve Help at Any Size.

Health at every size quality eating disorder care

When we think of eating disorders, many people still imagine someone who is visibly underweight. But the truth is: eating disorders don’t have a “look.” They affect people of all shapes, sizes, ages, genders, and backgrounds. And yet, due to weight stigma and outdated medical models, those in larger bodies are often overlooked, misdiagnosed, or told they’re "not sick enough" to deserve support.

Let’s be clear: you deserve help—no matter your size.

What is the Health at Every Size (HAES®) Approach?

The Health at Every Size (HAES) model is a weight-inclusive, evidence-based framework that shifts the focus from weight to overall well-being. Rather than prescribing weight loss or using BMI (body mass Index) as a primary indicator of health, HAES promotes:

  • Body respect and acceptance of body diversity

  • Eating for well-being, not restriction

  • Joyful and accessible movement, without pressure to change body size

  • Health access without weight discrimination

In eating disorder care, HAES helps create a more affirming and compassionate environment. It supports individuals in building healthier relationships with food, movement, and their bodies—free from shame or pressure to conform to narrow beauty ideals, that are often not realistic or achievable.

Why the Medical Model Falls Short

The traditional medical model often views weight as a proxy for health, labelling larger bodies as inherently "unhealthy." This can lead to serious harm:

  • Delayed diagnosis of eating disorders in people who don’t appear underweight

  • Overemphasis on weight loss, which can reinforce disordered eating patterns

  • Medical trauma, where individuals in higher-weight bodies are dismissed or shamed

In contrast, HAES-informed care recognizes that health is multifaceted, and weight is not a behavior. It meets individuals where they are, with respect, not judgment.

If you're struggling with food, exercise, or body image—you are not alone, and your body size does not make you less worthy of care. Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that deserve attention and support, no matter what your body looks like.

Recovery is not reserved for a specific body type. You deserve a space that sees all of you, not just your weight.
