Schema Therapy for Eating Disorders

Schema Therapy looks at the deeper patterns behind eating struggles, not just food or behaviours. It helps you understand how things like shame, perfectionism, or feeling “not good enough” developed over time, and how they show up in your relationship with food and your body. In therapy, we work gently to meet those unmet emotional needs, soften harsh self-criticism, and build adaptive ways of coping.

There’s growing evidence that Schema Therapy can be really helpful, especially for people who feel stuck or have been struggling for a long time. It’s often used alongside approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E), with research showing it can improve both eating symptoms and emotional wellbeing.
